Everyone knows the signs of an obviously bad but not necessarily toxic employee: Comes in late, leaves early. Long on lunch breaks but short on productivity (and, curiously, “time”). Never gets an assignment done on time—or accurately. And perhaps most infuriatingly, doesn’t even appear to care.

Those people are pretty easy to pick out of a crowd, and their terrible work habits have likely already appeared on a performance appraisal or three. But what about the ones who fly under the radar because their worst characteristics aren’t performance related?
